Synra Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 22, 2026
Synra is a macOS desktop companion from Synryzen. This Privacy Policy explains what information Synra can collect or process, how that information is used, where it is stored, and how you can control it.
Synra is designed to be local-first. Many features run on your Mac or through services you choose to connect. Optional cloud services are used only when you configure or enable them.
Information Synra May Process
Synra may process the following categories of information, depending on which features you enable:
- Owner profile information, such as your name and local assistant preferences.
- App settings, including selected avatar, background, voice, model routes, integration settings, and daily-use state.
- Chat messages and assistant responses.
- Optional voice input, speech transcripts, and local voice enrollment samples.
- Optional camera frames for local face enrollment, owner verification, and vision questions.
- Optional local file and folder information from folders you choose, including filenames, document text snippets, file metadata, and indexing status.
- Calendar and reminder information when you enable briefings, scheduling context, or follow-up routines.
- Smart-home information from services you connect, such as Home Assistant entities, room names, scenes, sensors, and low-risk action requests.
- Optional integration details for services you configure, such as local AI endpoints, OpenAI-compatible endpoints, Home Assistant URLs, API keys, and selected provider settings.
- Purchase and entitlement status provided by Apple StoreKit.
Face Data and Local Recognition
Synra includes optional local owner recognition features. Face recognition is used only if you choose to enable face setup, smart facial recognition, camera recognition, or trusted-user checks.
What face data Synra collects
When face recognition is enabled, Synra uses the Mac camera to evaluate whether one clear face is visible and whether the camera frame is suitable for enrollment or verification. Synra may store local face-recognition enrollment state, quality scores, pose/framing status, timestamps, and local recognition readiness data.
Synra does not use Apple Face ID. Synra does not collect Apple Face ID data. Synra does not create or upload a system biometric identity profile. Synra does not sell face data.
How Synra uses face data
Synra uses face data only for these purposes:
- To help you complete optional owner face enrollment.
- To show setup quality, such as lighting, framing, stability, and whether one face is visible.
- To verify whether the enrolled owner appears to be present before allowing trusted low-risk actions.
- To improve local safety state inside the app, such as “Owner Ready,” “Face Ready,” or “Owner Verified.”
Face recognition is not used for advertising, tracking, cross-app identification, or third-party profiling.
Sharing and storage of face data
Face enrollment data is stored locally on your Mac. Synra does not share face enrollment data with third parties. Synra does not upload face enrollment data to Synryzen servers.
If you separately use a camera or vision question feature and choose a cloud AI provider, Synra may send the current image or visual context needed for that specific request to the provider you selected. That separate vision request is controlled by your model and provider settings and is not used as Synra’s face enrollment store.
Retention of face data
Face enrollment data remains on your Mac until you reset face recognition, reset owner recognition setup, delete app data, or uninstall Synra and remove its stored support files. You can retake or reset face setup inside Synra.
Voice and Audio
Synra can use your microphone for optional voice input, always-listen mode, voice enrollment, transcription, and speech recognition. Voice enrollment helps Synra prefer the owner’s voice and reduce accidental triggers from TV audio or other people.
Voice samples and voice readiness state are stored locally where possible. If you configure a cloud transcription, voice, or text-to-speech provider, audio or text required for that request may be sent to the selected provider. Examples include OpenAI-compatible endpoints, ElevenLabs, or other services you explicitly configure.
You can disable listening, reset voice enrollment, change providers, or remove saved credentials inside Synra.
Camera and Vision
Synra uses the camera only when you enable camera-based features such as local face setup, owner verification, camera preview, or vision questions.
Camera access is permission-based. Camera frames are not used for advertising. If you ask Synra a vision question, the app may process a frame locally or send the necessary image context to the AI provider you selected for vision.
Files, Folders, and Memory
Synra can index local folders you select so you can ask questions about your files, prepare briefings, organize files, or create cleanup proposals. Synra only accesses folders you choose through macOS permission flows.
Synra may store local file metadata, filenames, text snippets, indexing status, and generated summaries in its local app storage. When Synra proposes file changes, it should ask for approval before performing write actions.
You can remove folders, reindex, reset memory, or delete local app data.
Calendar, Reminders, and Mac Data
If you enable Calendar or Reminders features, Synra may read relevant events, due dates, and task details to prepare briefings, meeting prep, follow-up suggestions, and scheduling context. Synra requests macOS permissions before accessing protected data.
Synra does not access Contacts, Mail, Notes, or other protected Mac data unless the relevant feature is built, visible, enabled, and permissioned.
AI Providers and External Services
Synra supports local and cloud AI providers. Depending on your settings, prompts, chat history, file excerpts, transcripts, images, or task context may be sent to the provider you choose for a specific task.
Examples of optional services or tools Synra can work with include:
- Local AI services such as LM Studio and Ollama.
- OpenAI-compatible custom endpoints.
- Cloud AI providers that you configure, such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Groq, OpenRouter, or ElevenLabs.
- Home Assistant or MQTT services you connect.
- Weather data providers used for briefings.
- Apple StoreKit for purchases, subscriptions, and entitlement status.
Each external service has its own privacy practices. Review the privacy policies of any provider you connect.
Payments and Subscriptions
Synra uses Apple StoreKit for in-app purchases and subscriptions. Apple processes payment information. Synra receives purchase and entitlement status from Apple so it can unlock paid access.
Synra does not receive your full credit card number from Apple.
